In Loving Memory of Hazel Doris MacArthur(Street)
November 12, 1940 – July 26, 2023
Hazel Doris MacArthur, lovingly known as Doris, was born on November 12, 1940, in Kingston, Ontario, to her devoted parents Harold and Hazel Street. An only child, she grew up in the communities of Cataraqui and Kingston, where she developed the strength, independence, and warmth of spirit that defined her life. She attended Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute as a teenager, finishing her high school diploma in Adult Night School where she also was training on being an effective secretary and Executive Assistant, as well as office worker.
On August 13, 1960, Doris married the love of her life, Elmar Wayne MacArthur. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. Their greatest joy came with the birth of their son, Rob MacArthur, who would later marry his wife Lorraine in Las Vegas in 1998 — a celebration that Doris always cherished.
A Life of Dedication and Compassion
Doris’s professional journey reflected her caring and giving nature. She worked with the Queen’s University Alma Mater Society, the Kingston Regional Cancer Centre, and Twiggs Drugs. For Doris, her work was never just a job — it was an opportunity to make a difference, to lend kindness, and to serve her community with grace.
Adventures and Joys
Travel was a shared passion for Doris and Wayne, who journeyed to England several times, collecting stories, memories, and moments that brought them closer together. Beyond travel, Doris lived life with enthusiasm. She loved bingo, golf, darts, casinos, dancing, and country music, always finding joy and laughter in the simplest of moments. She brought brightness and fun to every gathering, and her energy left a lasting impression on those lucky enough to know her.
A Family Connection Across the Ocean
In March 2002, Doris’s life took a remarkable turn when she discovered she had a half-brother in Holland named Harrie. With the help of an organization that reunited Dutch children with their Canadian families, the connection was made after years of believing she was an only child. A Dutch news crew flew to Canada to document their reunion, capturing the incredible moment when Harrie surprised Doris mid-interview. Together with Wayne and Harrie’s family, they toured Ottawa and other scenic spots, ending their journey at the resting place of their father, Harold Street. What began as a surprise became a lifelong bond, and Doris’s family and Harrie’s family continue to stay connected to this day.
A Legacy of Love
On July 26, 2023, Doris passed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love that will never fade. She is survived by her devoted husband Wayne, her son and daughter-in-law Rob and Lorraine, and the many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the pride of her life:
- Grandchildren: Zach, Josh, Ben, Luke, TJ, and Jamie
- Great-Grandchildren: Blake, Cameron, Owen, Michael, Kaylee, Riley, Westley, Leah, Brooke, Layla, and Myles
Her family will always remember her not only as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, but also as the heart of their family — the one who celebrated every joy, offered comfort during hardships, and taught them the true meaning of togetherness.
Hazel Doris MacArthur’s life was a story of family, joy, and love. Her kindness, resilience, and warmth touched countless lives, and her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Every life has a story... and this one is Doris’s. 🌿
